New Lines for Legislative Districts across Suffolk
Local district sees small additions and subtractions, but remains intact following county-wide redistricting.

The Suffolk County Legislature voted 11-5 in favor of new district lines for the next 10 years, finalizing a restructured map that added and took away small chunks from districts around the county.
, which encompasses all of Babylon Village, Lindenhurst Village, the Town Beaches and a part of North Amityville, will remain largely intact, with a few areas being added to the North of North Lindenhurst and West.
Legislators had poured out over maps for the past few months trying to even out each district to have around the same number of voters: 80,000 people.

"The changes were pretty spread out, but the largest were East End towns in North and South forks that had to be shrunken considerably," Legislator Wayne Horsley (D–Babylon) told Patch. "The districts adjoining those picked up more people."
Redistricting occurs every 10 years or so after the results of the Census are released and legislators have time to review them. Each district is kept equal to ensure equal power within the Legislature.

"We have a high density population in a very small area," said Horsley. "District 14 is pretty much the same...which is always fine by me - I love my district."
