Rally Demanding Permanent Police At Babylon LIRR Scheduled

A local official will be hosting the event to demand permanent police presence at the Babylon train station Friday evening.

BABYLON, NY - A rally will be held Friday evening at the Babylon train station to demand a permanent MTA police presences in the area.

Assemblyman Mike LiPetri (R-Massapequa) will host the event starting at 6 p.m. at the LIRR station on Railroad Avenue demanding Governor Andrew Cuomo and MTA Chairman Pat Foye appoint a permanent officer to patrol the station after reports of homelessness, harassment, intimidation and stalking of riders.

LiPetri says he has received countless reports of individuals being harassed, threatened, and intimidated – including students from nearby schools.

"After numerous meetings, letters, and phone calls, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority has failed to show a willingness to adequately address this problem," he wrote in an email.

Last month, the MTA began additional police patrol between 5 a.m. and 11 p.m. The additional police presence comes after local officials and residents requested that officers patrol the area due to an increase in crime in the area.
