Man Who Punched Bed-Stuy Cyclist Into A Coma Arrested, Police Say

Gary Anderson stands accused of punching Domingo Tapia to the ground as he rode home from work.

BEDFORD-STUYVESANT, BROOKLYN — The man police say punched a cyclist to the ground and put him into a coma has been arrested, police announced Thursday.

Gary Anderson, 26, is accused of attacking Domingo Tapia, 38, who was riding his bike down Fulton Street near Albany Avenue around 1:30 a.m. on June 8, said police and his wife, Ester Diaz.

Diaz, who has since launched a GoFundMe campaign to help pay her husband’s medical bills, said her husband was still “fighting for his life” weeks after the assault.

The arrest comes two days after Diaz, Tapia’s two sons — aged five and seven — and Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams appeared at a candlelit vigil for Tapia.

Adams pledged $1,000 of his own money to anyone who helped police locate the suspect, the borough president announced on Twitter.
