Five students earn first and second place awards in Town of Hempstead competition.

Five students at Merrick Avenue Middle School, in the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District, were recently recognized by school administrators and the Town of Hempstead for their participation in the Reflections art contest.

The Reflections contest is a nationwide initiative that challenges students to submit creative pieces of work centered on a specific theme. The 2015 Reflections theme was “The world would be a better place if…” and students are eligible to compete in categories such as literature, film, visual art, dance, choreography and music composition.

Merrick Avenue Assistant Principal John Gibilaro was joined by Hempstead Town Supervisor Kate Murray and the school’s PTA Reflections Chairperson Hali Herman, along with Merrick Avenue English Chairperson Cheryl Fontana.
