Calhoun Students Earn Spot at Psychology Fair

Two students from Sanford H. Calhoun High School, in the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District, were selected among a competitive pool of applicants to present their research at the Long Island Psychology Fair on Jan. 8 at Roslyn High School.

David Braunstein and Stephanie Steinberg were two of only 36 Long Island students chosen to present at the fair.

Braunstein’s research involves comparing the frontal lobes of patients suffering from Parkinson’s disease against normal control patients. Steinberg’s inquiry examines the behavior and personality outcomes when mothers interact with their toddlers using specific types of language.

Jennifer Pefanis, Calhoun’s director of the Advance Science Research program, will be at the Roslyn fair as both a liaison and judge.

This is the first time Calhoun students have applied to take part in the fair.
