Armour Villa & Gramatan Village Partner for a Successful Friendsgiving

It takes a Villa and a Village...

The Thanksgiving spirit came early on Tuesday of last week when several local groups combined efforts to deliver 100 turkey dinners to local senior citizens. For the third year in a row, the fundraising efforts were led by the Armour Villa Neighborhood Association in partnership with Gramatan Village. Chef Jack Ginty of The Wicked Wolf North and his staff lovingly prepared the meals this year while Gramatan Village coordinated the meal distribution with community partners: Eastchester Senior Programs and Services, Yonkers NNORC and Yonkers Public Library – Crestwood Branch, Christ Church Bronxville, the Reformed Church of Bronxville and a team of dedicated community volunteers.

Since receiving their meals, the seniors have expressed so much joy and gratitude to have been remembered by their community on Thanksgiving. This act of kindness and remembrance brightened their holiday and reminds us all that this season is truly about giving. Steve Wagner, President of the Armour Villa Neighborhood Association acknowledged the philanthropic collaboration, stating “The Armour Villa community members showed their generosity again this year along with our partner in this Friendsgiving effort, Gramatan Village. So, I guess you can now say it takes a Villa and a Village.”

Gramatan Village is a membership-based nonprofit organization dedicated to helping older adults continue living in their own homes with an enhanced quality of life by providing support services and social and educational programs to its members. If you are a “solo-ager” and heading into the holiday season on your own, please join us for our upcoming program, Monday, December 5, 2:00pm at the Bronxville Public Library. We will be hearing from New York Presbyterian Westchester’s Cathy Biviano who has been an RN for 20+ years working with older adults. She will be discussing ways to prevent social isolation over the holidays. Visit www.gramatanvillage.org to register or contact the Gramatan Village office for more information 914-337-1338.
