Chapel School Campers Raise Money for Charities

Bronxville, NY- At the end of July, The Chapel School Summer Camp Program offered a week of camp focusing on Service and Leadership for students in second through seventh grade. During the week, the students learned about the importance of teamwork, communication, problem-solving, and being a leader in their schools and communities.

Through classroom activities and community based projects, campers explored the traits of successful leaders and learned how to use those skills to help make a positive impact on the world. “We encourage and empower students to serve and lead by helping them set goals, make decisions, solve problems, and work as a team,” stated Mrs. Kate Marino, Service & Leadership Instructor. The campers take what they learn and serve those in need in the community. “They are equipped with the knowledge and tools to take what they have learned out of camp and practice serving and leading in their lives.”

As part of the camp, the students organized and held a craft fair. They were responsible for every step of the process: planning, promoting, crafting, and selling! The students discussed social issues that were important to them, and as a group chose organizations to support with the proceeds from the craft fair. They decided that helping the Wildlife Conservation Society was of great importance. In addition, they wanted to help other children have access to technology by supporting the non-profit One Laptop Per Child. In total, the campers raised $352, donating $176 to each organization.
