Concordia Conservatory Student Takes First Place

In the Symphony of Westchester's Seventh Annual Competition for Young Artists

CONCORDIA CONSERVATORY STUDENT WINS FIRST PLACE IN THE SYMPHONY OF WESTCHESTER’S SEVENTH ANNUAL CONCERTO COMPETITION FOR YOUNG ARTISTS

Bronxville - Concordia Conservatory is proud to announce that pianist and Concordia Conservatory student Benjamin Wien, 15, is the First Place Winner of the Seventh Annual Symphony of Westchester Concerto Competition for Young Artists. As first prize winner, Ben performed the third movement of W. A. Mozart's Piano Concerto. 23 in A Major, K. 488 with The Symphony of Westchester on February 13.

Ben says of the honor, “It was a wonderful and exciting experience to have this experience with the Symphony of Westchester and Maestro Hoffman because it was a supportive environment and helpful in my development as an artist.”

Ben has studied piano since age 8 with Dr. Marija Ilic at Concordia Conservatory, where he has attended the Conservatory’s pre-college honors program, and also currently takes conducting lessons with James Lowe. Ben is a recipient at the Conservatory’s David Jacobson Merit Scholarship. Ben has performed on dozens of honors recitals both as a soloist and in Chamber ensembles, including the Jazz ensemble with college students. Ben has also performed in several of the Conservatory’s annual Holiday Community Musicals.

Ben has also performed as a soloist and chamber musician at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall, the Rose Studio at Lincoln Center, Steinway Hall in New York City, Bard College Conservatory’s Bito Performance Hall, Rochester Convention Center, and Tilles Center for Performing Arts at LIU Post to anime a few.

Ben is in his sophomore year at Eastchester High School, where he plays french horn in the orchestra and concert band, and keyboard in the jazz band. In 2021 & 2022, Ben has played horn with the Greater Westchester Youth Orchestras Association as a member of the Westchester Youth Symphony. He also plays baseball and chess and helps entertain his 3-year-old brother.
