Parents Need Help For Baby Born 15 Weeks Early

EASTPORT, NY — The community is joining hands and hearts to help a sweet baby born early.

A GoFundMe, "Love for Dawsyn," was created by Christine Brooks on behalf of Meaghan Mayer.

"Meet Dawsyn Harper Holmes," the page says. "She decided that she wanted to meet the world 15 weeks early."

Dawsyn was born on Feb. 2 at 2:15 a.m. at just 1 lb., 10 oz., the page said.

"She was already the strongest little girl, fighting for her life. Mommy and Daddy are pleased on how well she is doing and can’t wait for her to come home from the NICU in a couple of months," Brooks wrote. "They want to say thank you to all of their friends and family who have been showering them with so much love. It means so much."

Although Brooks said it's a frightening, happy, stressful and emotional time, Dawsyn said Dawsyn's parents are comforted knowing they have such a strong support system.

"The nurses and doctors in the NICU have been amazing and they couldn’t have asked for a better team taking care of their little girl, Dawsyn," she said. "But with this happening so unexpectedly, and Dawsyn having to spend two to three months in the NICU, the medical bills that Meaghan and Brandon will have are much more than expected. Meaghan also recently started a new job so the time she has accrued to take off, and get paid to be out on maternity leave, is not as much as she’s going to need. Any little bit could help them."
