Drivers Escape Inferno Caused By 3 Car Crash: Chappaqua FD

Police helped drivers to escape from burning vehicles. Firefighters extinguished the blazes & searched nearby woods using thermal imaging.

CHAPPAQUA, NY — An early morning multi-car crash caused two of the cars involved to catch fire, creating tense moments for passengers and rescuers.

A three-car collision that occurred just before 5:30 a.m. Friday left two of the cars on their sides, according to the Chappaqua Fire Department. When Fire Chief Maitland's car 2061 arrived on the scene, two of the three cars involved were already in flames.

All three drivers were able to escape their cars with the help of New Castle police. The crash victims were treated at the scene by EMTs from the Ossining Volunteer Ambulance Corps and the Pleasantville Volunteer Ambulance Corps.

Chappaqua firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the car fires. The rescue crews used thermal imaging cameras to search the wooded nearby to make absolutely certain that no other victims who may have been thrown from the cars during the fiery collision were unaccounted for.
