Electrical Fire Damages 2-Family Mt. Kisco Home

Everyone got out safely and the fire was put out quickly.

The electrical fire in the second floor bedroom of a Mount Kisco home was quickly contained and damage was limited.

Firefighters responded to the 2-family house, located at 109 Grove St., arond 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Mount Kisco Fire Chief Michael Boles said. The fire was put out within minutes. Fire, smoke and water damage were on the second floor, which is one housing unit, while there was only some water damage to the first floor and unit.

According to Boles, the fire was caused by an impinged wire behind a bureau that contained a TV. An electrical circuit became overloaded. The fact that the door to the second floor was closed helped to prevent new oxygen from entering, thereby helping to contain the fire, according to Boles.

Walter Perez, who lives on the second floor, recalled there being fumes and the smoke detector going off. His mother, Florinda Alonzo, rushed to the downstairs unit to tell the occupants, Pasquale and Pasqualina Albanese, about what happened.

Perez said it is "surprising this happened."

Pasqualina, who is the mother of Bellizzi and Frannie's Goodie Shop owner Isi Albanese, described herself as being "shaken" by the matter. She called 911 after being alerted about the fire.

Isi, who was at Bellizzi when he found out about the fire, headed over to see his parents.

"We have a good fire department in Mount Kisco," he said.

The Albanese unit on the first floor is habitable because of the minor water damage, while the second floor's damage is too extensive to allow the family to return.
