Embracing Change

I have been speaking to various groups about change a lot recently. It really is one of my favorite topics. Why? Well, change is inevitable, it happens frequently, and it is so DIFFICULT for many of us. For me, I am in the process of changing my brand, again! Perhaps some of you have noticed that my approach is shifting slightly. But, either way, as any of us let go of the old and attempt to move to bigger and better things, there is always an adjustment. Always! Just today, I had planned to send out a video that I filmed last week for this blog, but I had so much trouble editing it, I had to change my plan (prompting a blog about change instead!)…

Again, change is inevitable. It is part of life. Seasons come and go. We look different – older/younger/fatter/thinner. Why resist change when you can embrace it instead! To help you approach this shift, I have broken change into a couple of different categories and sub-categories for you:

  • Re-Active change – this is when a life event occurs and we have to deal with the consequences. It could be something as minor as a flat tire or as major as an unexpected health diagnosis. This sort of change for the most part is not something we can anticipate of plan for. On the other hand…
  • Proactive Change is a different story. This is the sort of change we plan or chose. Proactive Change also can be divided into two:
    • External Change: Easy examples of External Change are deciding to move, changing your hair cut or switching jobs, etc. Yes these types of changes can be hard to do, but ultimately when you decide to do one, it is “outside” of yourself. Alternatively…
    • Internal Change is another ball game all together. These types of changes creep up on you as a nagging feeling that builds instead of going away. It is when you know deep down that something MUST change. All of a sudden it dawns on you on a conscious level that you do not recognize yourself – and you want YOU back. Internal Change is the most profound and difficult type of change because it requires you to frankly look at the way you are living your life and how it FEELS. Perhaps the hardest change question to ask is: Do you want a different experience??? If you are ready to start admitting that everything is not “fine” and truly look at what is working as well as what is not, then you are ready for Internal Change.

One interesting thing that I have observed is that the more we embrace Internal Change, the more we free ourselves up emotionally to live for the rest of our lives. If you are not “stuck,” you can have more joy, lose weight, take chances and deal with Reactive Changes with a lot more ease and grace. So here are a few Change-related questions for you:

  • Do you feel a little lost or out of focus?
  • Do you know there is “more” out there for you but not know where to start or even what “more” looks like?
  • Have you forgotten how to dream about what you want your life to be like and just accepted “it is what it is”? Does that realization suck?
  • Is your “intimate life” not where you want it to be, but you do not know how to work your way back to a “connected” relationship? Do you want to be connected?
  • And, last, are you READY to embrace change in order to have the life you really and truly want?

If these questions resonate with you, I am offering a special (and free!) thirty-ish minute session to help you get clear and understand your Change Blockages.
