Fox Lane Field Hockey Doing Well This Fall

Team enjoys winning season, with a 4-2-2 record so far.

Fox Lane’s field hockey squad entered the month of October with a 4-2-2 record and its coach Melissa Heyde is happy with where her squad is at.

“We are in a good place right now,” Heyde said. “Coming into the season, we knew we had a lot of youth on our team but our youth has really risen to the occasion.”

One of those young standouts is freshman goalie Keely Connors, who made four saves in the Foxes’ 2-1 triumph against visiting Greeley Sept. 26.

“She played JV as an eighth grader last year, that gave her some very good experience,” Heyde said. “She is just a great athlete who is very coachable. She has stepped into a big role as a young player and has done a nice job. We are fortunate to have Kirsten Lalli, who is a volunteer assistant. She has been with Keely every step of the way.”

Lalli was a three-time all-section player as goalie while playing for Fox Lane, before going on to Colgate, where she played all four of her years there before graduating this past June. In her senior year, she started all 17 games in net for the Raiders and led the nation in saves per game, averaging just over 10 saves per contest.

Up front senior forward Sydney Rozins continued her successful season with a goal against Greeley.

“Sydney is doing a nice job for us this year,” Heyde said. “She has brought great leadership skills to the table and has just been really feisty on the field for us.”

So has senior midfielder Victoria Dey, who scored her first varsity goal against the Quakers.

“She has been a workhorse for us,” Heyde said.

As a team, the Foxes' motto is to always to get better every time they step on the field.

"We are still trying to do that each and every time we play," Heyde said. "The second half of our schedule is more challenging then the first half. That is what it’s going to be like in the sectionals so it’s good that our schedule is like that. We just have to keep working hard and keep improving our game so we can continue to be successful.”

Fox Lane’s next game is at home at 5:45 p.m. Oct. 4 against Rye, last year’s Class B finalist.
