Judge Rejects Ex-Chappaqua Teacher's Plea Deal
Everyone but the community and, now, the judge, had agreed to his misdemeanor plea in the high school sex abuse scandal.

New Castle Town Justice Douglas Kraus has rejected a plea deal entered by former Horace Greeley High School drama teacher Christopher Schraufnagel in connection with his criminal sex-abuse case, FIOS1 reports.
Schraufnagel has pleaded guilty to three misdemeanor counts of endangering the welfare of a child in a plea deal entered in New Castle town court and agreed to by his accusers.
He had originally been charged by police with one count of third-degree criminal sex act, a felony; plus two counts of endangering the welfare of a child and four counts of third-degree sexual abuse, all misdemeanors.

News of the plea deal roiled the community, which has also attacked the Chappaqua School District administration for its oversight of the teacher and students and its response to the scandal.
