Geat Escape: Mountain Pose for Mommies
Take your little one with you on this yoga escape.

Sometimes, as moms, we simply need an escape from the confines of our homes. Laundry and dirty dishes pile up. There are a ton of email and phone messages that need attention. We end up worrying more about those chores than about really matters: bonding with our infant and taking care of ourselves.
Simplicity Yoga in Kings Park offers a weekly solution to both together time and mommy attention with their Mommy and Me Yoga classes. Currently, the studio has two offerings: One for moms and their infants, and one for mothers and toddlers. Classes meet Mondays and Thursdays at 9:30 a.m. Moms and kiddie yogis receive the benefits of a traditional yoga class, such as building muscle tone and de-stressing. Additionally, you learn yoga poses that can be done with a handy prop—an infant.
Amy, a local mom, has been attending classes with her son Andrew since he was about 2 months old. She was hesitant to return to her usual gym postpartum, not wanting to leave Andrew with a sitter. Simplicity Yoga offers her an excellent alternative. "I can get out with the baby, meet other local moms, and Andrew can socialize with other kids, especially as he begins to get older,” Amy said.

An added benefit to this workout is teaching your child the importance of exercise and well-being from an early age—folding clothes and returning emails can wait. This escape from the daily grind can be purchased as a single class or as part of a package.
