- “He started the Deer Park Arts Council as a way to raise money for and support the art and music programs at the schools in Deer Park School District. Since it started around two years ago, he’s obtained non-profit status for the group and has led community members in helping to raise money for scholarships, new instruments and art supplies for students, and has helped promote a culture of appreciation for the arts in a time when so many schools are unfortunately losing funding for these important programs. He’s also organizing an event to take place at Geiger Park this summer to help raise even more money for the Arts Council. The event will have live music, food, space for artists of all kinds to create art in real time, and more.”
Why do you feel this person is an Everyday Hero?
- “My father has always gone above and beyond for causes that he feels are important. Despite having a demanding 9-5 day job, he dedicates countless hours to making sure that the Deer Park Arts Council runs smoothly and accomplishes all the goals that it creates. Furthermore, my brother and I have both graduated from Deer Park schools! No longer having children who attend the schools hasn’t stopped my father from furthering his commitment to making sure that Deer Park students of all ages are afforded the same quality education in the arts as other districts around the country who may not be suffering from budget cuts. It’s such important work that people often forget about, especially in this new age of standardized testing, and I believe that makes him a true Everyday Hero.”
