Anna Pump's Family Receives Anonymous Letter, Asks Writer to Come Forward

The renowned local chef and author died after she was struck by a car last month.

The family of renowned chef and author Anna Pump, who was killed after she was hit by a car in Bridgehampton last month, recently received an anonymous letter which stated that the writer had information about fatal accident, according to a report in 27east.

Pump’s daughter, Sybille van Kempen, received the letter and copies which was sent to Bridgehampton Inn, Loaves and Fishes, both owned by Pump, as well as her home in Water Mill, dated October 16, according to the report.

She asks that the writer comes forward in order to work together in order to find answers, 27east reports.

The 81-year-old Sag Harbor resident died on Oct. 5 after 40-year-old Water Mill resident Luis Ortega struck Pump, who was walking in the crosswalk by the Bridgehampton Post Office, while driving along Montauk Highway, according to police.

Pump was transported by Bridgehampton Volunteer Ambulance to Southampton Hospital where she pronounced dead a while later, police said.

Ortega was arrested and charged with circumventing an interlock device, unlicensed operation, and failing to yield for a pedestrian in a crosswalk, police said.

He was processed, sent for medical treatment, and is due back in court in November, according to police.

Ortega was arrested on a DWI charge in 2012 and he was charged with second degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and circumventing an interlock device after an accident in Southampton Village in 2013.
