DOT Repaving Project in East Hampton to Resume After Winter Hiatus
Drivers should expect travel lane shifts along NY Route 27/Montauk Highway.

The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) announced last week that the $13.8 million project to repair and repave 15 miles of NY Route 27/Montauk Highway between NY Route 114 in East Hampton to South Etna Avenue in Montauk in the Town of East Hampton, has resumed after the winter construction hiatus.
Repaving operations began earlier last week.
The project will consist of removing the top layer of the worn, distressed pavement and replacing it with new asphalt and fresh pavement markings including bike lane striping and more visible pedestrian crosswalks.

In order to resurface the roadway with minimal impact on residents, businesses and motorists, there will be travel lane shifts on shorter sections of NY Route 27/Montauk Highway instead of lane closures and a single travel lane in each direction will remain open to motorists.
In addition, active roadwork is taking place only during off-peak hours.

When completed, these pavement repairs will improve motorists’ safety and help maintain the integrity of NY Route 27/Montauk Highway in the Hamptons.
This past fall, most of the deteriorated section of NY 27/Montauk Highway and as much of the highway as possible was repaved before the start of the harsh winter weather.
The remaining pavement work is taking place from west to east and is expected to be completed in May 2015, weather permitting.
The off-peak daytime travel lane shifts will be in effect Monday through Friday, between 9:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. each day, weather permitting.
A single travel lane in each direction will be maintained but in some areas there will be single lane alternating direction traffic operations, so eastbound drivers may have to stop while westbound drivers proceed then vice versa.
Night work will take place primarily at busy intersections and the down town areas of Montauk, Amagansett and East Hampton villages to ease the inconvenience of repaving operations.
Local officials, businesses, and emergency service providers were notified about the repaving project.
Motorists are being warned in advance of the lane closures via portable electronic road signs.
Drivers who cannot use alternate routes are reminded to drive carefully through the work zone for their safety as well as the safety of the highway work crew.
