East Hampton Artist to Lead Free Workshop for Kids Wednesday
Children will create model ships from recycled materials.
Two local organizations are teaming up to bring a free art workshop to East End kids.
The Organización Latino-Americana of Eastern Long Island is slated to present a Children’s Art Workshop, led by Aurelio Torres, on Wednesday, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. The workshop is free and spaces are available. Call OLA at 631-899-3441 for information and to reserve a space.
Torres, grandson of the acclaimed Uruguayan artist Joaquin Torres-Garcia, is an East Hampton-based artist originally from Montevideo, where he lived until 1973, OLA members said.

The workshop is open to children from eight to 14 years old and will feature the construction of model ships from recycled materials. Materials will be sourced from each child’s home and brought in for "full artistic transformation," the release said.
Types of materials to be used include tin foil, paper towel rolls, toilet paper rolls, broken costume jewelry, material, old small toys, and "anything that sparks the imagination," according to OLA.

“I'd like to see the children experience the satisfaction of creating something wonderful out of simple recycled materials," Torres said.
OLA will be partnering with Bridgehampton Child Care Center on Bridgehampton Sag Harbor Turnpike during their after-school program hours.
OLA’s next workshop with Aurelio Torres as lead artist will be held at the Robert Wilson Watermill Center in March, 2017.
This year’s Children’s Art Workshop is made possible by a grant from Southampton Town.
OLA of Eastern Long Island is an advocacy organization that promotes the social, economic, cultural and educational development of the Latino community on the East End of Long Island.
