East Hampton Library Children's Addition Listed As Top Public Library Addition/Renovations

The addition was listed as the 2014 top Public Library Addition/Renovations in the Library Journal Architectural Issue.

The East Hampton Library announced Saturday that their New Children’s Addition was listed as one of the 2014 top Public Library Addition/Renovations in the Library Journal Architectural Issue.

The expansion, completed last spring, added 3,545 square feet of new space on the first floor and 3,257 square feet of new space in the lower level, to the Main Street building, according to the East Hampton Library website.

The project cost $4 million, donated by residents and businesses, added 10,000 new children’s books to the collection in addition to installing a second elevator in the building so that the entire library is handicapped accessible and adding 16 new parking spaces. Additional computers, seating and other age appropriate improvements were also made, according to the library’s website.

The architectural drawings were done by Robert A.M. Stern while the interior design of the Children’s room was build by Lee H. Skolnick Architecture + Design Partnership.
