Family of Missing Sagaponack Woman Ask For Public's Help

The family spoke to the public during a press conference on Wednesday afternoon.

The family of Lilia Aucapina, a Sagaponack woman who was reported missing earlier this month, asked for the public’s help to help find her during a press conference on Wednesday afternoon.

Aucapina, 40, was reported missing on Oct. 10 after she was seen arguing with her husband in Wainscott at about 9:30 a.m.

Her family reported her missing about 12 hours later.

Maria Duchi, Aucapina’s niece, along with Aucapina’s two brothers, Victor and Carlos Parra, attended the press conference at the Southampton Town Police headquarters.

Duchi said that the family doesn’t believe Aucapina, a mother of a 21-year-old son and 14-year-old daughter, would leave her children “without any notice,” 27east reports.

“She’s a good mom,” she said.

Her brother, Victor said through a translator that “the family’s in shock because she’s a good woman, and we never expected that she would not come home,” according to 27east. “We have no explanation for it.”

Dulchi also said the family was “relying on its faith” and that they hope she will return safely, according to Sag Harbor Online.

“We’re Christian. We believe she is safe, that she is alive,” she said.

According to Lieutenant Susan Ralph, the police were told that the day she went missing, a woman fitting Aucapina’s description was spotted walking west on Montauk Highway, as far west as Water Mill, The East Hampton Star reports.

The morning she went missing, she was spotted at Meeting House Lane Medical Practice arguing with her estranged husband, Carlos Aucapina, 50.

He was arrested by both Southampton and East Hampton Town Police for violating an order of protection made against him by his wife.

She was reported missing at about 9:30 p.m. on Oct. 10.

Since then, police have been conducting searches every day, expanding out from her residence with ATV patrols, canine patrols, foot patrols and aviation patrols.

Anyone who knows of her whereabouts are asked to contact the Southampton Town Police.
