Gerard Drive Breached in East Hampton; Highway Supe Urges Caution

Highway crews are out working in East Hampton as temperatures plunge, Highway Superintendent Stephen Lynch said.

EAST HAMPTON, NY- Snow is pounding East Hampton and flooding has caused Gerard Drive to breach, according to East Hampton Highway Superintendent Stephen Lynch.

Napeague Meadow Road is flooded all the way across by the railroad tracks, Lynch said, and parts of Cranberry Hole Road are flooded to the center lane, with water level still expected to rise. ”Please avoid these areas and thank you for all being so patient as we do our job. Be safe out there,” he said.

Crews have been out sanding and plowing, with the first round finished at 8:30 a.m, Lynch said.

“It’s not going to be long before we’re out plowing again,” he said.

Conditions are worsening rapidly, Lynch said. ”If you don’t have to go out today, stay home and let us get the plowing done. This is going to be an all day thing,” with snow expected into Monday night and again on Wednesday, Lynch said. “ And it’s going to get cold.”
