Montauk Point State Park to Host Fourth Annual First Day Hikes Program
The event will take place on New Year's Day starting at 10 a.m.

The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (State Parks) will sponsor a guided hike at Montauk Point State Park on New Yearโs Day as part of the fourth annual First Day Hikes program.
โWhat better way to welcome the New Year than by enjoying a hike with friends and family?โ said State Parks Commissioner Rose Harvey. โNew York features spectacular views and recreation year-round, and we invite everyone to start a healthy, fun tradition of spending time outdoors this January 1, whether staying close to home or discovering a new favorite destination.โ

The hike will begin at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 1.
The hike is part of nationwide initiative championed by Americaโs State Parks and the American Hiking Society offers the opportunity for participants to celebrate the holiday by creating memories and enjoying the outdoors.

The park will provide pre-registered participants with free, commemorative fleece caps and First Day Hike stickers.
The American Hiking Society encourages families participating to be prepared by dressing in layers, wearing hats and appropriate footwear and recommend all hikers bring along snacks and water for the journey.
