Springs Resident Dies in Accident in North Carolina
The local resident was a student at High Point University in North Carolina.

A Springs resident and East Hampton High School graduate who was attending college at High Point University in North Carolina died in an accident in Greensboro last Friday.
Mario Fernando Mayorga, 19, was hit by a truck after getting into a cab in downtown Greensboro on Thursday night, according to a local Fox report.
A missing person’s report was filed with local police on Saturday morning by Mayorga’s family, according to the report. The truck driver is not facing any charges.

“The entire HPU Community grieves with and extends their sympathies to the Mayorga family,” High Point University officials said in a statement. “President Qubein has reached out to Mario’s parents to offer HPU’s prayers, assistance, and support during this difficult time.”
A community prayer vigil was held in his honor in the university on Saturday.

Mayorga was a sophomore at the university where he was studying business and accounting and was hoping to eventually studying law at Georgetown University and become a lawyer, according to a report in The East Hampton Star.
“He was the complete package, a great student and more importantly a great person,” East Hampton High School Principal Adam Fine, who knew Mayorga well, said in an e-mail to The East Hampton Star. “His smile priceless.”
A friend of Mayorga, Jacqueline Bates, started a GoFundMe page to raise money for his family on Saturday with a goal of raising $5,000. As of Monday, $3,965 has been raised.
Specific funeral arrangements have not yet been announced, but Yardley and Pino Funeral Home in East Hampton will be handing his funeral arrangements and a service will most likely take place by the end of this week or beginning of next week, according to The East Hampton Star.
