East Meadow Apartment Fire Displaces Residents, 6 Treated For Smoke Inhalation: Police

The Newbridge Road fire occurred Saturday night, NCPD says.

EAST MEADOW, NY — A fire in East Meadow on Saturday night left six residents with smoke inhalation and others were displaced, police said.

Nassau County police said officers responded to a 911 call for a two-story multiple building fire located on Newbridge Road, and the fire occurred at 11:35 p.m.

Officers observed heavy smoke and began evacuating all surrounding apartments, police said. Nassau County Fire Marshal's Office said the fire was in apartment 29 on the first floor, and a second alarm was transmitted. The fire was brought under control within 35 minutes, fire marshals said.

NCPD said the six residents who suffered smoke inhalation were transported to Nassau University Medical Center for evaluation, fire marshals said.

Multiple apartments sustained significant damage, and the investigation is ongoing, police said. Smoke detectors were present and activated, fire marshals said.

The North Bellmore Fire Department and neighboring fire departments assisted in extinguishing the flames, police said. The Nassau County Fire Marshal, the Arson Bomb Squad, and the Town of Hempstead Department of Buildings responded to the scene, and the Red Cross was notified to help displaced residents, police said.
