Elderly Man Seriously Injured In Attempted Robbery: Nassau Police

Police say the man was punched in the face by a robbery as he knelt to tie his shoe, seriously injuring his eye.

The Nassau County police are investigating an attempted robbery that left a 74-year-old man with a serious injury.

According to police, the 74-year-old man was walking east on Union Avenue in Westbury around 3:30 a.m. on Monday when he stopped to tie his shoe. As he was kneeling, police say he was punched in the face by an unknown man, who then got on top of the victim and demanded his wallet. Before he could get the wallet, the attacker fled north down an alley towards Maple Avenue. Nothing was stolen.

Police say the man was taken to a nearby hospital by a family member, where he was treated for a serious eye injury.

Police say the robber was about 30 years old, wearing a black shirt and black pants.
