Man And Woman Face Drug Charges After Police Find Substances In Traffic Stop: Police

The duo were stopped in a white Mercedes Benz just after 3 a.m. Thursday, police say.

UNIONDALE, NY. — A Brooklyn man and a Roosevelt woman are facing drug possession charges Thursday after police found what they believed to be crack cocaine and heroin in the vehicle the duo were in during a routine traffic stop in Uniondale.

Nassau County Police said 42-year-old Haneef Lamont and 35-year-old Sharon Baxter were driving along Jerusalem Avenue just after 3 a.m. Thursday when police initiated a traffic stop on their white Mercedes Benz. According to police, Lamont was driving with Baxter in the passenger’s seat. When officers attempted to remove the duo from the car, police said they heard something hit the ground behind Lamont. The noise, police said, was a black scale with a white powdery residue on it hitting the ground.

After searching the car, police said they found 83.7 grams of white powder that they believed to be crack cocaine and push rods full of what they believed to be heroin. Police said they also found three-point-six grams of a white rock-like substance they believed to be crack cocaine and seven-point-six grams of a brown powdery substance they believe to be heroin, both in clear plastic bags on Baxter’s person. Additionally, while Lamont was en route to the precinct, police said they recovered another bag with 34 grams of the rock-like substance believed to be crack cocaine. That bag, police said, was found directly behind where Lamont had been seated in the police vehicle.
