A 56-year-old man was killed when a fire ripped through a North Amityville motel Sunday morning, police said.
First Precinct officers responded to a 911 call reporting a fire at Sayonara Motel, located at 831 Broadway, at about 5:35 a.m., police said.

Kevin Furey, who was residing in a room on the second floor the motel, which is just south of the Southern State Parkway, was overcome by the fire, police said. He was transported to St. Joseph Hospital in Bethpage, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
The fire, which started in a different second story room, does not appear to be criminal in nature, police said. The investigation is continuing.
