Report: Swastika Found at Five Towns LIRR Station

Anti-Semitic symbol found scratched into glass panel days after it had been replaced for a similar incident, a report stated.

A swastika was found carved into a glass panel at the Cedarhurst Long Island Rail Road station days after it was replaced for being similarly vandalized, according to Newsday.

Commuters discovered the anti-Semitic symbol etched into the panel on the westbound platform. The glass pane inside an open waiting area had been replaced Friday after another swastika was found carved into it, said the report.

Amazingly, there was an even bigger and bolder swastika,” said Jeffrey Leb, 36, who is Orthodox Jewish and commutes from Cedarhurst, according to the report. “Regardless of who is doing it and regardless of their motivation, it just really brings out the fears in many people that they’re not safe.”

The area has seen several incidents of religious bias in recent years. In February 2014, Yeshiva student Jonathan Schuster, 18, of Far Rockaway, was charged with a hate crime for scrawling offensive remarks on advertisements at the Cedarhurst LIRR station.
