Three Men Led Cops on Chase Through Nassau Streets: Police

BREAKING: Detectives say the three crashed on the Grand Central Parkway, then fled on foot. Helicopters were called in to search for them.

Three men led police on a chase through the streets of Elmont Tuesday night before they were arrested in Laurelton.

According to detectives, plainclothes officers were on patrol around 10:30 p.m. when they saw a tan 1995 Ford Econoline van travelling westbound on Hempstead Turnpike with a Georgia plate that didn't belonging to the vehicle. The officers attempted stop the van, which was occupied by three men. The van accelerated and refused to stop.

Officers followed the van through the streets of Elmont and onto the Cross Island Parkway. The men fled on foot after crashing the van into a guardrail on the Grand Central Parkway. Police Officers from the Fifth and Third Precincts, Crime Against Property Squad detectives, along with the Nassau County Police Department Aviation Bureau and the New York City Police Department Aviation Bureau joined in the search.

Officers apprehended Taalib Quinshawn Webb-Burris, 20, of 219th Street, Laurelton, at 11 p.m. in front of 242 31a Oak Park Drive, Douglaston. Norel Thomas, the driver, 18, of 230th Street, Laurelton, was arrested in front of 239-12 Douglaston Parkway, Little Neck, at 11:05 p.m. after police say he attempted to steal another car. The third man has not been arrested.

Both are being charged with third degree grand larceny, unlawful fleeing, and criminal possession of stolen property. Thomas has three additional charges of third degree attempted grand larceny, attempted possession of stolen property and reckless driving. They are scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday at First District Court in Hempstead.
