FRANKLIN SQUARE, NY - A man attempting to rob a Franklin Square bank on Thursday evening was shot by an armed security guard, according to Nassau County Police.

A man walked into the Chase Bank on 654 Franklin Avenue at about 5:35 p.m., displayed a black handgun, pointed it at a teller and demanded cash, police said.

The man was then shot by an armed plainclothes security guard, police said.

“One security guard unholstered his weapon and fired approximately four times, striking that male subject four times,” Nassau Police Assistant Chief Neil Delargy told Newsday.

The suspect was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries, according to police. The man’s condition was not yet released, but Newsday reported that he had been hit “on his extremities.”

There were seven employees and eight customers present at the time of the attempted robbery. No other injuries were reported.
