GARDEN CITY, NY — The village announced it will be stepping up enforcement of some of its local laws after complaints from residents about lax enforcement.

Beginning July 1, the use of gas-powered leaf blowers is prohibited in the village. Anyone found using one of the devices will be fined, the village said.

The village will also increase penalties for residents who do not comply with the village's recycling and garbage disposal laws. Instead of issuing warnings, violators will now be met with summons.

The Garden City Police Department will also be increasing patrols and issuing more speeding tickets. The speed limit throughout the village is 30 MPH.

There is also a new law that all landscapers must be licensed with the village and display village-issued decals on their vehicles. Residents are encouraged to make sure their landscapers are licensed with the village. More than 100 landscaping companies have already been licensed. You can see the list here.
