Multiple Dangerous Drivers Taken Off The Road: Garden City Police

The Garden City Police Department reported the following incidents for the week ending Feb. 4.

  • Upon investigation of a suspicious unoccupied vehicle parked on 3rd Street on Jan. 30, it was determined the vehicle was reported stolen in Hempstead on Jan. 28.
  • Officers investigated two reports of mail containing checks being stolen from a mailbox on Stewart Avenue and Harrison Street on Jan. 30. The checks were altered to higher amounts and cashed by unknown persons.
  • Firefighters extinguished a small dumpster fire on County Seat Drive on Jan. 30.
  • A 30-year-old driver on Clinton Road was charged with driving with a suspended license, defective taillights and uninspected vehicle on Jan. 30.
  • Officers arrested a 28-year-old man from Brooklyn on Franklin Avenue on Feb. 1 for DWI, drinking alcohol in the vehicle, criminal possession of a controlled substance (cocaine), possession of marijuana, defective stop lights and uninsured operation.
  • As a result of a domestic incident investigation on Feb. 1, a 19-year-old man from Garden City was arrested for damaging property belonging to other family members.
  • As a result of a traffic stop investigation on Meadow Street on Feb. 2, a 55-year-old woman was charged with driving while her license was revoked for a prior DWI and passing a stop sign.
  • Two checks placed in a mailbox on Kensington Road were reported stolen and rewritten to higher amounts and cashed by unknown persons on Feb. 3.
  • A 31-year-old man from Hempstead was charged with driving on Cathedral Avenue with a suspended license and excessive speed on Feb. 3.
  • A 19-year-old man from Garden City was charged with passing a stopped school bus in the vicinity of Homestead School and unlicensed operation on FEb. 3.
  • Officers responded to a Brook Street residence on Feb. 4 for a report of an alarm and discovered a broken basement window. Upon investigation, it was determined someone broke into the residence and removed money from a cabinet. The investigation is ongoing.
  • The department investigated an identity theft report on Feb. 4 where someone used the credit card information of a resident to purchase merchandise at a department store.
  • Officers cited a 28-year-old woman from Brooklyn on Feb. 4 for driving a delivery truck on Clinton Road with a suspended license as well as multiple commercial vehicle violations.
  • A vehicle was stopped by an officer on Feb. 4 for travelling 75 mph on Stewart Avenue at Eton Road. Upon investigation, the driver, a 21-year-old man from Garden City, was charged with driving with a suspended license and excessive speed.
  • On Jan. 29, a man filed a police report stating a woman stole money from him on County Seat Drive. Upon investigation by Garden City Detectives, it was determined the report was false, resulting in the arrest of the 57-year-old man from Freeport on Feb. 4 for filing a false report and possession of a controlled substance (heroin).
