Petition Asks City for Public Hearing on Animal Shelter
Glen Cove officials consider town hall meeting to introduce shelter's new leadership.

Advocates for the Animal Lovers League are signing an online petition, urging a public hearing on the City of Glen Cove’s plans for the no-kill shelter.
As Patch reported on Dec. 10, city officials, claiming “increasing concerns about the shelter animals’ safety raised by a growing number of community members,” announced Cove Animal Rescue, a new entity, will operate the shelter, replacing Animal Lovers League. Officials say ALL must cease operation of the shelter by Jan. 15, 2015.

“The City has failed to provide any tangible evidence or credible reason for this action nor has it shown the extant ALL Board and administration to be inept, incapable or unable to discharge its duties to run this shelter.”
Launched on Dec. 11, the petition as of Monday evening had more than 1,000 signatures.

According to a posting on Monday the City of Glen Cove’s website, however,
There will be no public hearing to consider a change in the decision to transition from ALL to the CAR organization. However, the City may schedule a Town Hall meeting to introduce the CAR Board in the New Year.
According to the petition, a public hearing would allow both ALL and the city to air their differences.
