Firefighters knocked down a fire that caused extensive damage to a Dix Hills home Thursday afternoon.
According to fire officials, about 40 firefighters with eight trucks responded to the New Jersey Street residence at around 1:55 p.m.
The Dix Hills Fire Department extinguished the blaze with help from Deer Park, Melville, and Greenlawn fire departments at the scene. The Huntington Manor and East Northport fire departments provided standby coverage.

The fire is under investigation by the Suffolk Police Arson Squad and Huntington Town Fire Marshal.
