The Dix Hills Fire Department battled two house fires that were just eight hours apart on Tuesday.
The first fire broke out in a garage of a two-story home on Campbell Drive after 2 a.m. Two residents, a man and woman, were able to escape the smoky blaze unharmed, fire officials said.

The blaze was brought under control in about a half-hour with the help of about 50 firefighters and seven fire trucks. The units were under the direction of Assistant Chief Tom Napolitano along with Assistant Chiefs Alan Berkowitz and Joe Williamson.
The Greenlawn Fire Department assisted in putting out the fire.

The Dix Hills Rescue Squad responded with three ambulances and there were first responder and paramedic units on the scene for EMS support.
The Huntington Manor and Deer Park Fire Departments provided a standby engine and ambulance at Dix Hills Fire headquarters.
Eight Hours Later
A second Dix Hills house fire with heavy smoke conditions was reported around 10 a.m. on Durham Drive.
The fire, which was located in the basement, burned through the stairs. Fire officials believe the cause of the fire was an electrical issue.
About 50 firefighters from Dix Hills, Melville and Deer Park Fire Departments battled the blaze using six trucks. The units were under the direction of Assistant Chiefs Alan Berkowitz and Joe Williamson.
The woman who lives in the home was safely evacuated.
The Dix Hills Rescue Squad was on the scene for EMS support with two ambulances, a rehab unit and a paramedic responder.
The Greenlawn Fire Department and Commack Ambulance Corps provided a standby engine and ambulance at Dix Hills Fire headquarters.
Both fires are being investigated by the Suffolk Police Arson Squad and Huntington Town Fire Marshal.
Dix Hills Fire Department has responded to 11 house fires this year. The last incident, a garage fire, occurred on Sunday, April 12.
