Police Officer Killed, Another Shot And Wounded In Harlem
A 22-year-old police officer was fatally shot in Harlem on Friday and another was wounded, according to authorities.

HARLEM, NY — A police officer was shot and killed and another was critically injured in Harlem on Friday, according to city officials.
It happened around 6:25 p.m. on West 135th Street between Adam Clayton Powell, Jr. Boulevard and Lenox Avenue, where police had been called due to a domestic violence incident, an NYPD spokesperson said.
The Associated Press reported that the officers had been responding to a call involving an incident between a mother and her son. The shots rang out when they went into a back room of the apartment to confront the son.

The 22-year-old officer killed had been on the job since November 2020. Another remained hospitalized.
"It is our city against the killers," Mayor Eric Adams told reporters at Harlem Hospital Friday night.

The NYPD asked residents to avoid the area just after 6:30 p.m., adding that people should expect a police presence nearby. Videos posted to the Citizen app showed police cars filling the street, with sirens blaring.
Friday's shooting in Harlem came within days of other NYPD officers being injured by gunfire: a detective was shot on Staten Island on Thursday while serving a narcotics warrant, while another officer was shot in the Bronx on Tuesday. Both men survived the shootings.
