Teen Fatally Shot Outside Harlem's King Towers, Police Say

An 18-year-old was found suffering multiple gunshots to the torso.

HARLEM, NY — The NYPD is investigating the death of an 18-year-old man who was found dead outside of a Harlem public housing development, police told Patch.

Officers arrived at Harlem's Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Towers late Saturday night after responding to a ShotSpotter alert and found 18-year-old Tylik Allen suffering multiple gunshot wounds to the torso, police said. Allen was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Allen was a resident of the King Towers housing development, police told Patch. The King Towers are operated by the New York City Housing Authority.

The NYPD have not named a suspect and are still investigating the homicide, police told Patch.

ShotSpotter audio sensors can identify the distinct sound of a gunshot and send nearby officers an alert in real-time, according to NYPD officials. Officers can then listen to a recording of the gunshots on their phones and even learn information such as the specific address where the shooting took place.
