Police: 6 Arrested at Sobriety Checkpoint

Checkpoint was conducted in Hauppauge overnight Friday.

Six people were arrested during an overnight sobriety checkpoint in Hauppauge, police said.

Suffolk County Police, assisted by the New York State Police and the Metropolitan Transportation Authority Police, conducted the checkpoint on Route 347 between 11:45 p.m. Friday and 3:15 a.m. Saturday.

The operation was conducted for the prevention of injuries and fatalities associated with driving while ability impaired by alcohol and drugs, particularly during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, police said.

A total of 744 vehicles went through the checkpoint.

The following people were charged with DWI:

  • Paige Santorello, 23, of Centereach
  • Regina Dunne, 51, of Smithtown
  • Thomas Ambrose, 25, of Centereach

The following were charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs:

  • Ryan Thompson, 23, of Port Jefferson Station
  • William Hanley, 62, of St. James

The following person was charged with driving while ability impaired by alcohol:

  • James McCutchen, 20, of Smithtown

All of those arrested are scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Saturday.
