Police: Kings Park Man Attempts to Shoplift at Riverhead Walmart While Carrying Weapons
The arrest was made on Saturday.

A Kings Park man was arrested on Saturday afternoon after attempting to shoplift at a Walmart in Riverhead while concealing a weapon, according to Riverhead Town Police.
Police responded to the Walmart on Route 58 to a report of a male shoplifter inside the store shortly before 5 p.m.

Walmart security reported that the man had removed ammunition and was attempting to conceal it upon his person, police said.

Upon arrival, uniformed officer’s located and approached the man, identified as Nicholas Kieltyka, 30, police said.
After placing Kieltyka into custody, he was found to be in possession of a switchblade knife and a further search revealed that he was carrying a loaded .40 caliber handgun on his waist, along with an additional magazine also loaded with .40 caliber rounds, police said.

A further investigation at the scene was conducted and a search of Kieltyka’s vehicle revealed that he was in possession of an unauthorized assault rifle with numerous high capacity magazines, police said.
He was arrested and charged with second degree criminal possession of a weapon, third degree criminal possession of a weapon (12 counts), criminal possession of a firearm, fourth degree criminal possession of a weapon and petty larceny, according to police.
He was transported to the Riverhead Police Department where he was processed and held for morning arraignment.
