County Continues To Investigate Events Surrounding Death Of Child

The results of an autopsy, which might take weeks, could have an impact on the case, authorities said.

MAMARONECK, NY — Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino Jr. said Thursday his office continues to investigate the charges leveled against Cynthia Arce, who was shot Saturday, April 28 after she allegedly stabbed police officers who were at her home to try to help her daughter.

Gabriella Boyd, 2, died later in the hospital.

Arce was charged with two counts of aggravated attempted murder of a police officer, felonies.

Regarding the events of Friday, April 27, in which it’s alleged that the child’s father and police officers were turned away by Arce when they tried to enforce a court order for custody, Scarpino said they will be the subject of an intensive review in the coming weeks and months.

“This will be done internally in our office as well as part of the Child Fatality Review Team — a multi-agency panel,” he said.

“This is going to take weeks if not months if it’s to be done right,” Scarpino said. “And this office is committed to getting justice for the child and family, as well as all others involved.”

A memorial fund set up to help Gabriella Boyd’s family has raised more than $16,000 in just three days.

Organizer Angelique Clavell-Sequinot said the proceeds from the Go Fund Me webpage will be given to the child’s father — Steven Boyd — to help with funeral costs and to eventually set up a foundation in her name.
