Cops: Levittown Man Tailgated Woman, Struck Her on Hempstead Turnpike

Incident happened Thursday morning, police said.

A Levittown man faces assault charges for tailgating a woman, rear-ending her car, and striking her as he fled the scene of the collision Thursday morning, according to Nassau County Police.

At 11:10 a.m., the 22-year-old victim was driving a 2003 Ford Mustang west on Hempstead Turnpike in Levittown when a 1996 Ford Taurus began to “aggressively” follow her, police said.

The driver, Robert Anderson, 58, of Levittown, tailgated the victim and rear-ended her car when she stopped at a red light at Hamlet Road, cops said.

The victim got out and tried to take a picture of Anderson’s car, but he drove around and struck the woman in the knees as he fled west on Hempstead Turnpike, police said.

A witness followed Anderson and called police, who located and arrested the defendant on Blacksmith Road, cops said.

The victim suffered minor injuries to her knees and neck, police said. She was treated at the scene.

Anderson was charged with two counts of second-degree assault, criminal mischief, and leaving the scene of an accident. He will be arraigned Friday at First District Court in Hempstead.
