Levittown Students Present Findings at Science Fair

MacArthur students show projects at Charles Duggan Long Island Science and Engineering Fair at the Crest Hollow Country Club.

Under the direction of Dr. David Friedman and Matthew Zausin, MacArthur High School students took part in the first of three days of the Charles Duggan Long Island Science and Engineering Fair at the Crest Hollow Country Club.

Seniors Matthew Brulhardt and Sabrina Chasen advanced to the top 20% of projects on Long Island to present at Day Two of the fair. Matthew’s project investigated the impacts of changing plate coating spraying of bipolar plates in order to decrease wrinkling, thereby reducing fuel cell size. Sabrina’s research tried to determine the causes of the formation of insolubles in woody bio-oil.

The goal of the Charles Duggan LISEF is to identify and recognize students with the potential to become outstanding natural, physical and behavioral scientists, engineers or mathematicians.

Other student projects included sophomores Jake Iannacone and Andy Lee’s project analyzing computer programs and determining why humans have a difficult time understanding computer code. Junior Laura Tarone presented research on the patron demographics and rationale of patronage of Long Island Farmers Markets. In addition, senior Jennifer Cooper explored the socioeconomic differences of Whole Foods and Waldbaums shoppers through the novel use of vehicle value.
