Levittown Students Set Themselves Apart

Division High School students talk job interviewing with Town Councilman Gary Hudes.

Levittown’s Division Avenue High School students learned that setting themselves apart from others during college and job interviews is the key to being accepted.

During a presentation by Hempstead Town Councilman and business owner Gary Hudes, classes learned that dress, eye contact, handshakes and having information about the college or job for which they are interviewing can make a big difference in the outcome.

“Every interview should be treated as the most important in your life,” Hudes said.

Hudes, who owns a successful jewelry business, told the students that skills learned on the job are never menial and may assist in formulating a future career. He encouraged the students to set themselves apart at work by arriving early and leaving late, putting cell phones away on the job, and working toward a goal of advancement. He also warned students to clean up their email addresses and social media profiles. He explained that there have been times when he has not granted an interview based on an email address.
