Mick Foley Appears At Governor’s Comedy Club in Levittown
Former wrestler Mick Foley performed a set at Governor's Comedy Club on Friday night.
Long Island resident Mick Foley stopped by Governor’s Comedy Club on Friday night to try out some new material.
He was not scheduled to appear, but ended up taking the stage between comedians Joe Curry and Tim Krompier. Foley’s entrance on stage was greeted with loud applause; the members of the audience were shocked to see him come out.
Foley is most known as a former professional wrestler who won numerous awards such as being the first WWF Hardcore Champion. He turned turned to comedy because he thought it was a natural outgrowth of his wrestling career.

“Comedy is another form of storytelling, just like wrestling,” he said. “I’ve been trying to test the waters in terms of stand up. This is only my third set in the last year and a half.”
Foley has also appeared on Comedy Central’s The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. “I love the Daily Show,” Foley said. “It was great being on it and Jon really seems to like me.”

Foley said that both comedy and wrestling are very difficult. “They’re so similar psychologically," he said. "But I think the body takes less abuse on the stage. I think practitioners of both find them equaling exhilarating and heartbreaking.”
Foley has also been known for his charity work. He volunteers every week for Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network (RAIN). “It’s tough to talk about sexual abuse,” he said. “It’s something a lot of people are uncomfortable discussing.”
He also does work for Childfund International which assists children who are suffering from starvation in countries like Africa. On stage Foley briefly talked about visiting Nigeria. “Turns out they’re all fans of wrestling over there,” he said. “Problem was they thought it was real and came at me.” Foley’s anecdote was met with laughs and came near the end of his successful set.
