Customs: Woman Smuggled Cocaine in Her Girdle at JFK

An estimated $73,000 in cocaine was seized, CBP said.

A woman tried to smuggle several pounds of cocaine in her girdle at John F. Kennedy Airport, U.S. Customs and Border Protection said Monday.

On April 12, Olive Fowler, of Guyana, arrived at JFK from her home country and presented herself for inspection, officials said.

Fowler seemed nervous during her examination and was brought to a private search room, CBP said. There, officers searched her person and discovered packages inside her girdle and underwear that were filled with a white powder, officials said.

Fowler had smuggled a total of four pounds of cocaine worth $73,000 under her clothing, CBP said.

Fowler was taken into custody and turned over to Homeland Security. She faces federal narcotics smuggling charges and will be prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s office.
