From his record-setting Long Beach High School swim days to working winters at the Long Beach Recreation Center, Segura's life has been intertwined with the shoreline, evolving equipment, and City Council-backed upgrades that keep local beachgoers safer. 
• Huge Waves Draw Surfers To Long Island's Shore (southshorepress.com) — Long Beach's jetties became the go-to spot for surfers chasing 8- to 10-foot nor'easter swells, drawing wave riders from across the region despite dangerous winds and erosion concerns. Local surf legend Charles "Tooth" Callahan praised the city's tall buildings for blocking some wind, though the heavy surf still led to broken boards and one teen's hospital trip.
