Long Beach High School launches hands-on student barbering program (liherald.com) — Long Beach High School students now have an in-house barbering program that can lead to New York state barber certification, saving them long commutes and opening real career paths. Taught by Long Beach resident and veteran barber Dan Wallace, the course blends hands-on cutting skills with business, financial and internship experience, and will eventually offer free haircuts to students and staff.

The Long Island, New York Beach Town Changing Faster Than Anyone Who Grew Up There Expected (takingthekids.com) — Long Beach is rapidly reshaping its homes, dunes, and boardwalk to better withstand future storms while still welcoming visitors year-round. From elevated houses and a widened beach to a rebuilt, protective boardwalk and a new comprehensive plan, the city is balancing nostalgia with resilience. Locals and day trippers alike can expect a denser, livelier community that still revolves around the ocean.

Gas Station Worker Slashed In Face After Rejecting Robber's Demand In Rockville Centre: Police (dailyvoice.com) — Police say a man wanted for slashing a gas station worker in Rockville Centre was tracked down and arrested in Long Beach on Thursday. Nassau County detectives located the 56-year-old Hempstead resident in the city after a weeks-long investigation. He now faces robbery and assault charges, with a prior weapons and drug case still pending sentencing.

4. NYS EFC is accepting applications for $45M in grants for flood mitigation & resiliency projects (wnypapers.com) — New York State is accepting applications for up to $10 million per project in Green Resiliency Grants, aimed at stormwater and flood-mitigation work. Long Beach has already benefited from the first round of this funding, underscoring the city's importance in statewide resiliency planning. Local officials could pursue additional grants before the January 29 deadline to bolster future protections.
