Student Represents Long Beach at Harvard, MIT Math Tourney

Prestigious tournament is one of the toughest in the nation.

A Sacred Heart Academy student from Long Beach represented Long Island with nine others at the Harvard/MIT Math Tournament.

Kelly Gannon joined other Long Island students on the team and took fourth place in the competition.

The annual tournament is one of the toughest in the country and brought together more than 800 contestants from the United States, China, Honduras, Canada, and more.

Gannon is part of the Institute of Creative Problem Solving for Gifted and Talented Students, a program for gifted and talented young students to experience creative problem solving.

Other competitors from the program included Talia Blum, of Plainview Old Bethpage JFK High School, Daniel Celic, of New Hyde Park Memorial High School, Mark Kong, of Roslyn High School, Stephen Kyranakis, of Smithtown West High School, Sam Latt, of Huntington High School, Nick Marmann, of Smithtown West High School, Miranda Nykolyn, of Huntington High School, Rachael Park, of Manhasset High School, and Zachary Ryan, of South Side High School.
