Find Something Good to Do on Long Island — A Free Resource for Nonprofit Events, Volunteering & Jobs

Long Islanders are increasingly looking for events and experiences that are good and do good. Meaningful, worthwhile ways to use their time to support their communities and enjoy their local resources. Thankfully Long Island has hundreds of nonprofits running exactly these kinds of events and programs. The problem is that most people, like myself, who'd love to show up, don't even know they exist or how to find them.
That's why I built Proof Positive Network (proofpositivenetwork.org) — a free platform and weekly newsletter that curates Long Island's nonprofit events, volunteer opportunities, and mission-driven jobs in one place. Instead of checking 20 different nonprofit websites or hoping something appears in your social feed, you can find everything from an outdoor summer concert at a landmark site to a community garden volunteer day to open employment roles at nonprofits like Island Harvest and Seatuck — all on one site.
The site currently features over 30 organizations including:
- Bayard Cutting Arboretum,
- Heckscher Museum of Art,
- Long Island Museum,
- Peconic Land Trust,
- ReWild Long Island,
- Sands Point Preserve,
- Save the Great South Bay, and
- Cinema Arts Centre
And we're adding more every week from our own research and from reader suggestions.
I've attended and volunteered at several of these events and organizations personally, and every time I tell someone about the experience, the response is some version of the same thing: "I wish I knew about that." "I would've gone." "I was looking for something good to do that day."
If that sounds like you, check it out at proofpositivenetwork.org. Subscribe to the newsletter to get the top picks for the upcoming week delivered to your inbox every Sunday morning. It's free, and it's built specifically for Long Islanders who want to find something good to do.
Hope to see you out there,
- Michael from PPN
